INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Installation Instructions
  1. Find the center of the barrel and drill a small hole (approximately 1/8"). Align the center hole of the template that is provided with the small center hole in the barrel.
  2. Mark the three outside holes on the template and drill these with a 3/16" bit.
  3. Go back and enlarge the center hole to 2".
  4. Push the #10 x 3ž4" machine screws with lock washer through the three outside holes from the inside of the barrel. Use another lock washer and #10 nut to hold these screws in place. (See diagram right)
  5. Take the plastic pipe fitting and place it through the 2" hole. Tighten the nut over the fitting. The threads should point to the outside of the barrel.
  6. Mount the timer on the bottom of the barrel using the #10 nuts and lock washers included with the hardware. This is normally done when the feeder is in the field

BATTERIES To activate the timer, install either one or two 6 volt, spring top lantern batteries. For the best results we recommend using either a Duracell #MN908 alkaline battery or an Eveready #529 alkaline battery. These batteries should last from 4 to 12 months depending on how the run time of the timer is set. When it is necessary to change the battery, the new battery should be installed within 4 minutes after removal of the old battery, so that the time will not have to be reset. If the unit is without a battery longer than 4 minutes, it will have to be reset. TESTING THE UNIT To test the unit, turn the rotary switch to the "TEST" position then QUICKLY BACK TO ONE OF THE RUN POSITIONS. DO NOT LEAVE IN TEST&RUN TIME POSITION. After a 5 second pause the timer will throw feed for the amount of time that the feeder is set to run. TO SET THE TIMER If you want the timer to feed at a specific time, turn the rotary switch to the "SET" position at the actual time you want to feed. Leave the switch in that position until the motor spins for a short time. There is a 5 second delay before the motor will spin. Then turn the switch to one of the run positions. In the "ONCE/DAY" position, the feeder will feed once a day at the time you have selected.

Example: If you want to feed only at 7:00 a.m., at 7:00 a.m. you would need to set the rotary switch to "SET" and leave it in that position until the motor spins for a short time. Then move the rotary switch to the "ONCE/DAY" position.

In the "8HR", "9HR", "10HR", and "11HR" position the feeder will feed twice a day. The second feeding will be 8, 9, 10, or 11 hours after the selected time.

Example: If you want to feed only at 7:00 a.m., and again at 4:00 p.m., at 7:00 a.m. you would need to set the rotary switch to "SET" as described above. Then move the rotary switch to the "9HR" position. This will set the feeder to feed at 7:00 a.m. and 9 hours later at 4:00p.m.

TO ADJUST AMOUNT OF FEED DISPENSED The unit is preset to run for three seconds. This will dispense approximately 1 pound of grain. If you wish to adjust the run time, move the rotary switch to the "TEST&RUN TIME" positions. LEAVE THE SWITCH IN THIS POSITION UNTIL THE MOTOR STARTS TO SPIN AT A REDUCED SPEED. There is a five second delay before the motor starts spinning. Let the motor run for the length of time that you desire, then move the rotary switch to one of the run positions. The length of time that you allow the motor to run will be the run time of the feeder. The minimum run time is 1 second and the maximum run time is 10 seconds. Please note: if you do not move the rotary switch out of the "TEST&RUN TIME" position, the motor will stop turning in 10 seconds and at each feeding the motor will run for 10 seconds.

STORAGE The game feeder unit is designed to feed year round. However, if you store the unit, be sure that it is stored without batteries, and with its spinner pointing up.

When it is necessary to change the battery, the new battery should be installed within 5 minutes after removal of the old battery, so that the time will not have to be reset.  If the unit is without a battery longer than 5 minutes, it will have to be reset.

TO SET THE TIMER After the batteries are installed, you need to be at the timer at one of the 8 times shown on the control decal.  At any one of those 8 times rotate the control knob to the actual time and depress the button on the side of the timer.  Hold this button down until the timer has run twice.  When you first push the button the unit will run for 1ž2 second, then there will be a 5 second delay, then it will run for another 1ž2 second.  After the second run you have set the time in the unit.  For example, if it is 12 p.m. rotate the control knob to “12:00 pm” and hold the button on the side of the timer down until the unit spins twice.  You have now set the time in the unit.  (This can be done at any of the 8 hours shown on the control decal.)  You will not need to set the time again unless you remove the batteries for more than 5 minutes.  If you need to reset the time (to adjust for daylight savings) simply repeat the operation.  After you have set the timer return the control knob to the run position.

SETTING FEED TIMES To establish the times that you want to feed, simply rotate the control knob to the appropriate time and push the button on the side of the feeder.  The unit will spin for approximately 1ž2 seconds.  Then release the button.  You may select any combination of the 8 times shown on the control decal but remember that the more times the motor runs the less time the batteries will last.  If you forget what times you have selected to feed, rotate the control knob through the 8 different feed times and the motor will run for 1ž2 seconds at each feed time that has been selected.  After you have selected the feed times, rotate the control knob to the “RUN” position.

CHANGING THE FEED TIMES To change feed times rotate the control knob to the “CLEAR” position and push the button on the side of the feeder.  This will erase all feed times and you can reset the new feed times as described above.

TO TURN TIMER OFF If you wish to turn the timer off, simply rotate the control knob to the “CLEAR” position and push the button on the side of the timer.  Next, rotate the control knob to the “RUN” position.

TO ADJUST AMOUNT OF FEED DISPENSED The unit is preset to run for 3 seconds.  This will dispense approximately 1-1ž4 pounds of feed.  If you wish to adjust the run time, rotate the control knob to the spin position, and push the button on the side of the timer. The unit will begin spinning and will continue to spin for as long as you hold the button down.  The length of time that you hold the button down will establish the run time of your timer.  The minimum is 2 seconds and the maximum is 20 seconds.  Remember, longer spin times leads to shorter battery life.  After you have adjusted the spin time, return the control knob to the “RUN” position.

TESTING THE UNIT To test the unit leave rotary switch in the “RUN” position.  Push the button on the side of the timer, and after a 5 second pause, it will throw feed for the amount of time that the feeder is set to run.  If the timer is in operation and feed is in the feeder, use caution when pushing this button, as grain will be slung over an area of 15 to 20 feet.

STORAGE The unit is designed to feed year round.  However, if you store the unit, be sure that it is stored without batteries, and with its spinner pointing up.
